One of the themes of people who have left a lasting impression on me is wisdom or quotability.
J.R. Montes and I became friends in Nashville. Again, I am not sure exactly what connected us, but, I know that we just enjoyed each other’s company and he was crazy wise beyond his years. He was the type of guy that had things going on and they were good things. He was a mover and a shaker, he gave definition to what people now refer to as “hustle.”
One of the quotes that J.R. gave me, came literally at the exact right moment. I was struggling to make things happen. I felt like I had tried everything. I felt like I left everything on the field. <insert your own analogy here for being “done”>
J.R. said very calmly and matter-of-fact-ly, “You have to keep going, what if your next idea is the one?”
That encouragement in the moment was a game-changer for me. I thought… “is it possible that there is a next, is there one more, is there something I haven’t yet thought of, that might just work?”
I have seen others get to this point and when I get to this point of frustration in life with projects, or just life in general, I remember the words of my friend J.R.
For this quote, this moment in time, and for his friendship that accompanied it… I am grateful for J.R. Montes
