The silliness of my prayers

Mark 9:22-24 New Living Translation (NLT)

“Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.”

“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”

The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”

I have been reading through the Gospel of Mark.  I forgot how hard that book is to read.  It has really challenged me.  Today, this story leaped off of the page and slapped me.  It was like Jesus turned and looked at me and said these words to my soul.

I started to realize how often I pray for things in a way that is asking Him, “if you can?”

I guess what I am really asking Him is, “could you see things my way and let’s go with my plan?”  I don’t think that I doubt in God’s abilities, but, I do question why I would ask Him, “If you can?”

So, Today, I will pray in confidence to the One who is able, in a way that reflects my belief…

Lord, help me overcome my unbelief
